Cart2Cart: migrate your data to and from Joomla Virtuemart

Cart2Cart is a shopping cart software migration service. The website lists a fairly big list of cart software they can migrate between. Here are a few of the 24 supported carts:

Migrating data from one ecommerce software to another is a quite complex task. This is caused by many differences between cart software implementations:

  • product catalog fields(attributes) and their database mappings
  • product category structure
  • discounts, product packs, time limited offer handling
  • customer data(username, email, etc.)
If you run a multilingual shop there's added complexity because each product or field is saved separately for each language.

Note: customer passwords are usually stored as a 'hash' (signature) for security, so depending on the hash system your customers may need to re-generate their passwords once the shopsite is migrated.
