Jomcomment spinner shows forever, SOBI 2 Search does not work

If you're experiencing this behavior on your Joomla 1.5 site and using the sh404sef extension, the solution is quite simple.

You need to go to  Administration, then click Components->sh404sef. Click the 'Configuration' icon, and go to the 'Advanced' tab as shown in the picture.

The option '301 redirect from non-sef to sef URL'  must be set to 'No'.

The bug occurs because sh404sef tries to generate fancy urls from ajax xml http requests. This is useless, since ajax requests occur in the background, and search engines will never see them.

This workaround has its SEO price. If you installed sh404sef after going live and being indexed by crawlers such as Googlebot, you may end up  with duplicate urls, because sh404sef won't redirect the old Joomla urls (bookmarks, older urls from search engine index). If you went live with sh404sef from the very beginning, there are no problems.
